The main traverse of the Cuillin Ridge is a tough and challenging expedition. A combination of walking, scrambling, climbing and abseiling. With a distance of around 9 miles and an ascent of 10.000 ft between Gars- bheinn and Sgurr nan Gillean, the ridge justifiably demands a high level of fitness and commitment. There is no one way of "doing the Ridge" and each individual will have his / her agenda from which tactics and style will follow....

"Experience Skye Mountain Guides can offer a comprehensive package of support and preparation that will maximise your chances of success on what is the greatest mountain adventure in the UK."
Ray MacKenzie

One day traverse
The ultimate sporting option. The time taken for a one day attempt is based on the successful traverse of Shadbolt and Maclaren in June 1911, still a respectable time to aim for. (12 hours from peak to peak, 3 hours for the ascent, 2 hours for descent) An early start from Glen Brittle should see us back at Sligachan in time for a well earned pint!

Two day traverse
In recent years the two day traverse has proved to be the most successful and enjoyable way of tackling the Ridge. It is highly recommended for several reasons. The approach walk includes the option of the spectacular entrance by boat into Loch Coruisk, with a shorter and direct ascent of Gars Bheinn possible. The pressure of time is taken away and allows a more relaxed pace. An overnight bivouac really adds to the character of the route to fully savour the joy of living and moving in the mountains.

Munros Traverse
The Munros traverse arose from requests by clients to ascend the highest peaks without the need for rock climbs which can easily be walked past. 11 Munros in 1, 2, or 3days.

Support and preparation
Equipment such as rope, helmet, harness and technical gear are supplied by Experience Skye Mountain Guides.
Water dumps are made at strategic points on the Ridge in the course of our other guiding activities, in order to minimise the weight carried. Non-perishable food can also be added to the stocks, but by prior arrangement only.
Training days can be arranged prior to a Traverse. A half-day climbing on a classic route like the Cioch slab has proved popular in the past, as has the Clach Glas ridge. A great way to warm up for the big event!

All Traverses:
Individual: £300
2 clients: £250 per person
4/6 clients: £175 per person
Training days as part of a Traverse: £35

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding your particular traverse of the Cuillin Ridge.
